NIGERIA: Three dead in petrol tanker explosion in the Northeast

Three people got killed, leaving two others injured when a petrol tanker exploded in northeast Nigeria’s Adamawa state, an official said on Wednesday.

In a press briefing, the executive secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, Mohammed Sulaiman told reporters in Yola which is the state capital, that the victims were burnt to death in a petrol tanker fire outbreak in the Mubi area of the state in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

“So far, three people lost their lives and two sustained injuries from fire burns, and are receiving medical treatment in the Mubi General Hospital,” Sulaiman said, adding that an investigation is underway to find out the cause of the explosion.

The official urged most of the petroleum product dealers in the state to avoid operating during very “odd hours.” and instead consider the value and safety of human lives.

According to an eyewitness, the fire broke out when the victims were in the process of transferring the petroleum products from the petrol tanker to over 1,000 plastic jerricans at a filling station.
