Indonesia: One killed in Indonesia as gunmen attack police Headquarter

One person has been killed in Jakarta, Indonesia, following a suspected terrorist attack that took place today, Wednesday,31st March 2021, according to reports from TVOne channel, a local media based in the Asian country.

Gunfire was heard in the compound of Indonesia’s national police headquarters on Wednesday, local media reported, with images from the scene showing what appeared to be a lone figure being shot.

According to the TVOne channel, the attackers launched their attack at the compound of the country’s national police headquarters at 10:00 am local time when activities within the compound were about to resume. Few people have also been injured due to the attack.

Police used heavy force to dispel the attackers, who only took control of the situation within 30 minutes before peace was restored.

Indonesian police have not given the accurate number of casualties that have been recorded on today’s attack. Videos from MetroTV, however, showed the body of a man lying motionless on the ground.

Today’s terror attack is coming just a few days after more than 20 Christians were injured when two suicide bombers attacked the cathedral in the city of Makassar on Sulawesi Island. The attack was blamed on the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) rebel group, linked to ISIL, who claimed responsibility for the attack.

Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) group has promised more Christian target attacks during this holy week. The country’s president has promised to provide adequate security to the Christian minority.

Muslims dominate the country. Some radical Muslim groups having links with ISIL have taken advantage of their religion to fight against Christianity, which has affected the country’s churches.

The country experienced the worst terror attack in 2002 when at least 202 people were killed in a town known as the Bali majority.
